The air
light

easy
to breathe

to lift up the skirt
of daily existence

walk barefoot
through the muddy life below

head tipped back
eyes shut in bliss

the entire species
laughing.

Janet Jerve has taught poetry and worked as a writer for a nonprofit. Her poems have appeared in a number of journals and anthologies including Poetry East, Water~Stone Review, Great River Review, Hurricane Alice, Lake Effect and more. She lives in Minneapolis and is working on her second book of poems.
